Happy New Year! 2017 was a weird one, wasn’t it? Unlike in 2016 where all the celebrities died, 2017 saw all the celebrities get outed as rapists. Anyway, here’s a few of my top 3’s from last year!
1.) Tyler, The Creator – Flower Boy
2.) Jay-Z – 4:44
3.) Kendrick Lamar – DAMN.
One thing I’ve heard a lot from 2017 is that the music wasn’t great. I couldn’t disagree more. The Hip-Hop scene was on fire this year. Everyone (with the exception of Eminem – sorry) released great albums. JADEN SMITH released one of the best album of the year! Tyler, The Creator takes my top spot this year but it really could have been any of my top 3.
“Flower Boy” saw Tyler, The Creator take a whole new approach to his already great music. I could literally listen to it on repeat. ‘Smile’ from Jay-Z’s 4:44 is probably my favourite song of the year and Kendrick just killed it start to finish on “DAMN.”
If you say 2017 was weak for music, you are very wrong.
> Jaden Smith – SYRE
> U2 – Songs Of Experience
> Drake – More Life
1.) Spider-Man: Homecoming
2.) Star War: The Last Jedi
Just like with the music, it was very tough to choose my favourite movie this year. I’m still pretty torn between 1st and 2nd place. The fact that IT made the list is really saying something because I absolutely hate horror movies!
Spider-Man: Homecoming was by far the most fun I’ve had watching a movie in years, everything about it was great! I’m super excited to see where they go with Tom Holland as Spider-Man especially as it’s looking like Marvel are handing over the torch from Iron Man being their main draw. Also with Disney purchasing 21st Century FOX, the possibilities are endless!
Star Wars was an extremely close second for me this year, they’re really knocking it out of the park with this new trilogy! I did a bit of a review on that a few weeks back, you can read it here!
> Logan (Most badass movie this year)
> La La Land (Technically 2016 but very late 2016)
> The Lego Batman Movie (One of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time)
2016 VIDEO GAMES:
1.) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Switch
2.) Super Mario Odyssey – Switch
3.) Sonic Mania – Switch/PC/PS4/Xbox One
So last year I felt that the gaming industry fell a bit flat in their releases. This year was completely different. Nintendo absolutely stole the show this year with the release of the Nintendo Switch. This is the first console that I got on release day and I’ve not looked back since.
Nintendo revived two of it’s biggest franchises and revolutionised two genres in 3d platformers and open world adventure games while they were at it. 2017 is going to be looked back on as the year that Nintendo once again changed gaming forever. After the Nintendo WiiU flopped, it was a do or die situation with the Switch and they absolutely knocked it out of the park.
The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario franchises are ones that hold very close places to my heart. I’ve been playing these games since I can remember. I can’t even put into words the joy that I felt playing both of these games for the first time.
Sonic the Hedgehog also got a reboot this year in Sonic Mania. It’s a wonderful trip down memory lane and takes everything that’s right about the Sonic franchise and puts it into one ultimate experience.
Skyrim got yet another remaster this year on the Nintendo Switch, 6 years after it’s original release! While usually I hate franchises that get dragged out, being able to play Skyim on the go is amazing. I also need to mention Golf Story which released on, you guessed it, the Nintendo Switch this year. It’s a golf RPG and one of the best games I’ve played this year (and I don’t even like golf!)
Ubisoft also released a great RPG in South Park: The Fractured But Whole which is a direct sequel to 2014’s The Stich of Truth. It’s as hilarious as it is fun to play!
1.) Golf Story – Nintendo Switch
2.) South Park: The Fractured But Whole – PS4/PC/Xbox One
And there you have it, my personal entertainment highlights of 2017! I would do TV shows too but all I really watched this year was Game of Thrones… Do you agree/disagree? Follow me on Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and let me know that my opinions are wrong!
